School classes in Fakenham were giving a ‘dough’ at making their own pizzas.

Three classes from the town’s infant school were invited to take part in pizza-making sessions at The Crown Hotel on March 6 and 7.

Last year, the cooking classes came about as the children were hoping to make the Italian favourite at school, prompting year two teacher Laura Gray to contact landlady, Alie May-Hannam - who was all too happy to help.

When asking the landlord if they could return, the teacher described last year as “absolutely incredible” for letting the school take over the pub, they wanted to do it again - so early this year the school reached out again to the Market Place pub, who were once again happy to host.

“The Crown is a community pub at heart, and anyway we can help out in the community is valuable to us," said Mrs May-Hannam.

“Just like last year, the children were beyond excited when they arrived, and our head chef, Kaiya, was happy to answer all of their questions and help out.

“I’ve had parents message me personally to say how much they enjoyed it.”

Over two days the pub provided ingredients for 60 children, and some for the teachers,  to make their own pizza, and Mrs Gray was full of praise for the pub.

"We are so grateful to the generosity of the Crown once again to allow us to take over their restaurant for the morning.

“For some children, eating in a restaurant isn't a regular occurrence - for some, it was their first experience and they loved it.

“It was a great morning and everyone left very full, we can't thank the chefs enough for taking the time out to spend with the children and answer their questions.”
