A trip to the beach wouldn't be complete without a stop at the chippy.

So here are the best-rated fish and chip shops in seven of Norfolk's seaside spots, according to Tripadvisor.

1. Hunstanton - Henry's of Hunstanton

This spot in west Norfolk was named among the best in the UK in the Good Food Guide for 2024.

A stone's throw from the seafront, Henry's opened in 2019 and items on the menu include haddock, squid, prawns and sausages, as well as vegetarian options such as veggie burgers and halloumi.

2. Sheringham - Stevenson's Cafe & Fish Bar

On one of Sheringham's main streets and just minutes from the beach is Stevenson's Cafe & Fish Bar.

The chip shop serves all the classics and one reviewer on Tripadvisor claimed the food was "the best fish and chips they have had in years". 

Stevenson's has been temporarily closed due to a fire which "completely gutted" the venue in July 2023.

Thankfully, at the end of March, its owners confirmed on Facebook that the venue should reopen "in a few weeks".

3. Cromer - No1 Cromer

No1 Cromer, which has seaside views from the restaurant, was included in the prestigious Harden's Guide in March 2023 and won a Good Food Award in 2022.

In July 2023, it earned its first AA Rosette for culinary excellence.

The restaurant and takeaway is run by Morston Hall owner Galton Blackiston and his business partner Spencer Gray.

4. Great Yarmouth - Crystal Fish Bar

Crystal Fish Bar, in Fuller's Hill, offers all the fish and chip shop staples including fish, sausages, burgers and pies.

Its Tripadvisor reviews particularly comment on its large portions, good value for money and welcoming staff.

It is available to order for delivery or collection via JustEat.

5. Thornham - Eric's Fish and Chips

Eric's, with other branches in St Ives and Holt, recently reached the finals of The National Fish and Chip Awards 2024. 

Opening in 2015, the spot puts a "spin" on the chippy classics, serving arancini, battered gherkins and a black pudding fritter.

6. Winterton - Winterton Fish and Chips

A stone's throw from the beach, the chippy serves fish, burgers and pies as well as veggie options such as cauliflower bites and 'chicken' strips.

The takeaway has lots of reviews on Tripadvisor with one customer calling it the best fish chips they'd had in a long time.

7. Wells-next-the-Sea - French's Fish Shop

French's, which first opened in 1919, has won a string of awards in recent years, including the Quality Accreditation Champion category at the National Fish and Chip Awards. 

It is located in The Quay and has been serving the town for more than 100 years after being started by William Thomas French in 1921.

Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman revealed in a Vogue video that it is her favourite place to get the British staple.

It serves up classic chip shop options such as plaice and battered sausages as well as vegetarian options including spring rolls and veggie burgers.
