A derelict care home that closed due to welfare concerns is to be transformed into a housing development.

Courtenay House in Tittleshall, near Fakenham, closed in 2017 amid an investigation that found it was providing "inadequate" care.

Part of the vacant site will now be demolished to make way for nine new homes, ranging from three to five bedrooms.

The proposals, which have been approved by Breckland Council, seek to retain as much of the existing care home buildings as possible without "over-developing" the site.

A number of previous applications had been lodged with some seeking to demolish the former care home entirely.

Courtenay House closed down after a report by the Care Quality Commission found there had been significant failings within the service, which was deemed to be unsafe.

The redevelopment of the site received the support of residents, who said it would be a good use of the existing property, which has sat empty for more than six years and is "fast deteriorating".
