Norfolk performers are being called to attend auditions for a new community play that will look back at the life of one of Norfolk’s most inspirational figures, Sam Peel.

The play will be based on a book written by Mr Peel’s granddaughter Susan Wild and highlight how he oversaw the reorganisation of post-war education in the county and laid the foundations for the National Health Service in north Norfolk.

It is produced by Wells Maltings and will be performed by a community cast at the Alderman Peel High School in Wells in February 2018.

The play is written by playwright Robin McLoughlin and forms part of the Maltings’ Heritage Lottery funded activity plan, which aims to encourage and engage the community.

For further information on the auditions to be held on October 1, contact the Maltings team on 01378 711378 or email.

Dereham is situated right in the heart of Norfolk, and it is Breckland District’s second largest town with its origins dating back to the Saxon era.

Public outcry over plans to sell a popular car park has convinced at least one councillor that the proposal may be misguided.

The region’s mental health trust has appointed an interim director of nursing, quality and patient safety.

An NHS Action group will visit Dereham ahead of plans to sell off nearly six acres of land at the town’s hospital.
