Two brothers from Castle Acre have raised £11,000 for a national disability charity after being inspired by their younger sister, who suffers with a rare genetic condition.

Sam and James Stafford Allen, aged 33 and 31, have been nominated for Sense’s ‘Fundraisers of the Year’ award, after taking on the Marathon des Sables, known as one of the toughest challenges on earth.

Their 156 mile run took six days in 50c heat and required an entire year of training.

Their contribution has been described as “outstanding”, and the money raised will enable Sense to continue its work supporting people with complicated communication needs.

The brothers had a personal motivation to support Sense, as their sister Felicity’s condition has resulted in hearing and visual impairments. She has been supported by Sense for years, and her brothers wanted to find a way to give back.

The awards will be held on Thursday, September 21.
