Dereham high school hosts acclaimed author for ‘enthralling’ talks

Friday, October 13, proved to be a lucky day for students at Northgate High School.

Pupils enjoyed a visit from acclaimed author Nigel Hinton after winning the visit in a School Libraries Association prize draw.

Mr Hinton has written more than 20 novels. His work includes Buddy, which was made into a BBC TV programme and, most recently, The Norris Girls.

The visit included two talks to year seven, eight and nine students and Mr Hinton gave pupils tips for improving their writing while sharing entertaining stories from his childhood which inspired his novels.

Northgate literacy librarian Miss Ling said: “The pupils were absolutely hooked and it was fantastic to see them so enthralled.”

She added: “Students and staff have since come to see me to tell me how much they enjoyed his talk.

“We hope to use this enthusiasm as further momentum for the literacy work we do in school.”
