When visiting your local McDonald’s for some chicken nuggets or a cheeseburger, the last thing you expect to see is a professional wrestling match complete with weapons and body slams break out in front of you.

But that’s exactly what customers and staff at the Dereham McDonald’s saw on Friday September 21 when three wrestlers dressed head to toe in fight gear walked into the popular fast food chain and started a full bout, much to the astonishment of both those working and the customers enjoying their food.

Rise: Underground Pro Wrestling was the organisation behind the bizarre stunt and promoter Dan, who also wrestles and didn’t wish to give another name, explained the idea behind the plan.

He said: “To get a bit of good publicity to promote our upcoming shows we thought we would think outside the box and do something funny for a video.

“All the wrestlers that took part in the video, Big Joe, Big Dave and Charlie Davies are all from Norfolk and we wanted to do something in a public setting.

“At the moment we have this hardcore title which can be defended at any time and anywhere. Big Joe was in McDonalds and Charlie knew he was there and so thought he would challenge him.”

The video sees challenger Charlie Davies first approach Big Dave and hit him over the back with a chair, before doing the same to title holder Big Joe.

However, Big Joe eventually manages to fight back, with a cheeseburger still in hand, to scare his opponent off.

Dan said the reaction to the video has been good and could pave the way for some live wrestling events in Norfolk.

He added: “On the night we just went in and did it and they said they could see the staff found it funny. There was lots of people laughing.

“We’ve had a good reaction from people in the area and on social media. We will definitely look into doing some more stuff.”
