A lifeboat was called to rescue a dog and its owner after they got stuck on a marsh which had become submerged due to a high tide.

The incident happened at 7.30pm on Monday after an individual had got into difficulties on the submerged marshes near the East Quay at Wells.

It is understood they were trying to get to their dog.

The Wells Inshore Lifeboat was launched at 7.44pm and was on scene within three minutes. The lifeboat team picked up the casualty and the dog and returned them to a boat, which was moored in Sluice Creek.

Once safely back on board the lifeboat left the scene and was ready for service again at 8.30pm.
