The guitarist is supporting Mr Lamb as the Common Decency candidate – a campaign for ‘colour blind politics’ which urges people to vote for decent candidates locally irrespective of the political party they usually support.

The guitarist said: “If you want to make a difference, and stop a very decent MP being undermined... it’s clear that you have to vote for Norman Lamb.”

He urged Labour voters to vote for Mr Lamb and encourage their Labour-supporting friends to do likewise.

Mr Lamb said: “I’ve worked hard as an MP to help local communities and give a voice to those who are disadvantaged and marginalised, such as people with mental ill health. It’s pleasing to see that work recognised.”
