A proposed major expansion of Fakenham is to be put on hold so plans can be revised following responses from a public consultation.

Planning officers will consider making amendments to a development brief on issues including traffic management and location of open spaces in the proposal.

This comes after members of North Norfolk District Council’s Planning Policy and Heritage Working Party voted in line with recommendations made by Mark Ashwell, the council’s planning policy manager, today.

We have previously reported how the district council plans to allocate land between Rudham Stile Lane and the A148 for up to 900 new homes and facilities including a new primary school, community centre, nursery, industrial development, open spaces and possibly a hotel.

Mr Ashwell’s report states that the principal concern raised during the public consultation was potential traffic congestion, caused by the proposed closure of Water Moor Lane.

A Transport Assessment will be carried out to look at this issue in more detail.

Mr Ashwell said that amendments will be made to the development brief and those who have responded to the consultation would be notified and be given a chance to add further feedback.
