A new bus service will enable people to travel from Norwich to Fakenham every hour, six-days-a-week.

First Eastern Counties Buses announced it will extend the route of its Yellow Line service along the A1067 to Fakenham from the start of April.

At present, buses on the Yellow Line travel from Norwich city centre to Taverham.

The new X29 service will offer more frequent journeys in the weekday morning and afternoon peak period, with buses leaving every 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, buses will run every two hours on Sundays and public holidays.

The company said it will be operating the route with modern double decker buses, fitted with low emission Euro 5 engines in order to help improve air quality across the city.

A full range of Norwich zone fares and tickets will be available and sold at local Norwich prices. First Buses added tickets will be available at a reduced price when purchased on the company’s mobile phone app.

Managing director of First Eastern Counties, Steve Wickers, said: “With the recent successful developments and extensions to our Network Norwich services which are consistently resulting in an ongoing rise in passenger numbers, this is the next exciting phase in our commercial strategy to develop and improve the Norwich bus network around the city and the wider Norfolk area.

“From our ongoing work with a range of local stakeholders, we recognised that there was a need for us to introduce a bus link from Fakenham and the communities along the key A1067 commuter corridor. This new link will provide local people with better access and more choice onto a wider network where they can continue their journeys by bus.”

First Eastern Counties Buses said: “It is hoped that this initiative will encourage passengers to not only use this route, but also to continue their journeys once they reach the city centre to one of the many key destinations such as the UEA, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Broadland Business Park.”

Discounted young person tickets for people aged five to 19, and student saver tickets will be available alongside a High5 group ticket option.
