How will the Tamil pilgrimage impact weekend traffic?

Thousands of people are expected to attend this year’s annual Tamil Two pilgrimage in Walsingham on Sunday, July 9, police have warned.

Routes to the pilgrimage will be clearly marked for those attending and police officers are reminding motorists that routes into Walsingham along the A1065 into Fakenham, A149 at Fakenham and the B1105 towards Wells-next-the-Sea, are likely to be congested.

Norfolk County Council has also warned of temporary road closures including Greenway, from its junction with Wells Road, continuing along C325 Barsham Road and ending where it joins C586 Fakenham Road.

The adjoining roads of Farm Road and Grays Lane coming off from Barsham Road will also be closed.

Last year’s event saw around 13,000 people originally from Sri Lanka and southern India but now living in Britain, heading to the village to worship the Virgin Mary at the Catholic National Shrine of Our Lady.
