Drivers urged to take extra care ahead of chilly night

Norfolk County Council are urging drivers to take extra care on the roads tonight.

In a post on Twitter they informed drivers the gritters would be out from 7pm on Saturday, February 17 ahead of frost.

They said: “Chilly overnight forecast, so our gritters are going out at 19:00hrs tonight across the county.”

Some parts of Norfolk woke up to patches of fog after temperatures dipped below freezing last night. In some areas visibility was less than 500 metres, according to Richard Jones, forecaster for Norwich-based Weatherquest.

Temperatures fell to -3C at Santon Downhan, in Suffolk, -2C at Tibenham Airfield in south Norfolk and -2C at Houghton Hall in mid-Norfolk last night.

Mr Jones said it would be “cold and crisp” today and temperatures would reach 8C or 9C today - an average temperature for this time of year.

Cloud will come in from a westerly direction later today.

Mr Jones added weather conditions would be similar tomorrow.
