Sun lovers hoping for a scorching bank holiday may be disappointed as forecasters predict temperatures will start to drop.

The region has been basking in sunshine and clear skies for the last few days and the heatwave is set to continue today.

Weather forecaster at Norwich-based Weatherquest, Jim Bacon, said the very hot weather of Thursday and Friday was set to end over the bank holiday weekend, with temperatures in the low to mid twenties.

He added: “During Saturday morning a weak cool front will come in and make it a bit fresher.”

Mr Bacon said he was not altogether optimistic about the question of any rain to help gardeners and farmers but some patchy rain was possible but would clear by the middle of the afternoon.

Sunday will be a fresher day and during the morning there would be a chance of rain and there will be cooler temperatures and patchy cloud.

Temperatures will be lower across Norfolk and Suffolk than other parts of the country because of an Easterly breeze coming in off the North Sea.

He said bank holiday Monday could see some more widespread heavy rain and cooler temperatures still.

A so-called ‘Spanish Plume’ of hot air is responsible for the week’s balmy weather.
