A student from Norfolk had more than seven strokes after a night out and has now taken to YouTube to share her emotional story.

Luna Jarvis, 20, from Weasenham, near Fakenham, suffered several strokes after a night out in Lincoln where she is studying Film and Media.

But she was later told by university staff and paramedics that she couldn’t have had a stroke because she was “too young”.

She has now taken to YouTube to tell her story.

During the moving video she describes how the left side of her face began to tingle and she had several episodes the following day when she collapsed and had to be rushed to A&E where doctors assumed she was drunk.

Eventually after several tests it was revealed she has in fact suffered from a stroke.

She told the Lincoln Echo newspaper: “I tried to open my mouth but it wasn’t working. My face did not work, my brain went foggy as it was dying and it sent me as high as a kite.

“Everybody can have a stroke, but in the adverts, on the posters, everything – even in the general society and life – it’s perceived as something only old people get but young people get it too. Just because we’re young we’re not off the hook.

“If you see the signs for a stroke, it probably is one. The doctor thought I was drunk. I wasn’t drunk at all. The whole situation was petrifying.”

Miss Jarvis is on the road to recovery but has been left without any feeling on the left side of her body.

“I can move fingers but cannot feel it, I am on medication for life, I am not trying to scare anyone, I just want to raise awareness,” she added.

The YouTube video has been viewed over 2,000 times and was been praised the Stroke Association which posted on Twitter calling it “amazing”. The University of Lincoln also Tweeted about the video urging students to watch it and calling it Miss Jarvis an “inspiration”.

On YouTube a Lincoln University student commented: “I am also a Lincoln student, what a wonderfully inspiring person you are, using this awful thing that happened to you to raise awareness for others. I’m sorry that you had to go through this but it is amazing how well you are recovering and are trying to help a cause. Also your sense of humour is brilliant.”
