North Norfolk Classic Vehicle Club celebrates its 10th anniversary on Sunday, January 22.

It is hosting a birthday lunch at the Cliftonville Hotel in Cromer on March 19 to toast the occasion.

And it is expecting a bumper turnout at its St George’s Day parade, which starts in Sheringham on Sunday, April 23.

The club, which started with by a group of just 50 car enthusiasts, held its first meeting in the back room of the Village Inn in West Runton.

Now it boasts a membership of 228 - making it the largest multi-marque club in East Anglia.

Bernard Foster, vice-chairman of North Norfolk Classic Vehicle Club, said: “It’s amazing the way it has grown because when the club first started they didn’t imagine for one moement we would have so many members.

“It is not just classic cars either, it’s classic and unusual cars. Our members range in age from around 30-years-old up to their 90s and their vehicles include everything from a Fiat 500 to Rolls Royce and Bentleys, and we do have a couple of members who have the old Model T Ford.”

This year’s St George’s Day run is again being organised in support of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, as part of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Club’s ‘Drive-it Day” initiative.

The fundraiser, which starts at the Station Road car park in Sheringham and finishes at Holkham Hall, is open to any one with a classic, collectable, unusual or interesting vehicle including commercial, military and motor cycles.

Attracting over 300 vehicles each year the event has enabled EAAA to raise over £20,000 in the past four years.

And, last month, the club donated £175 to each of the free Christmas day lunches held in Sheringham, Holt, Mundesley and North Walsham from money raised from raffles during the year.

Roy Beckley, secretary of North Norfolk Classic Vehicle Club, said: “Our St George’s Day Run on Sunday, April 23, will be via a choice of two routes from Sheringham Station Road car park, courtesy of North Norfolk District Council, and will finish at Holkham Hall, by kind permission of the Earl of Leicester.

“As usual the entrants will be waved off by Sheringham’s Mayor and Town Crier.”
