Warnings have been issued about a hoax calls from fraudsters pretending to be from a north Norfolk council.

North Norfolk District (NNDC) have said they are seeing a rise in reports of scam calls to council-tax payers who are being asked to give personal information over the phone.

A spokesperson for the council said: “[We are] currently experiencing a spike in the level of reports of ‘scamming’ incidents where council-tax customers are being asked for their bank details so they can be refunded for overpayment.

“Some are pretending to work for North Norfolk District Council.

“Another announced he was working on behalf of the Council for a company called GSM.”

The council have warned residents not to give out their details to callers.

The spokesperson added: “NNDC is advising customers that it does not make calls to residents to ask for bank or card details.

“If in any doubt, customers should hang up and contact the Council on 01263 516071.

“If customers have any concerns regarding information they have given over the phone, they should contact their bank or card issuer immediately.

“Customers are asked to report any such calls to Norfolk Police by calling 101.”
