A North Norfolk boutique hotel and restaurant is set to start on a £675,000 expansion project of the historic coaching inn.
The move will see the award-winning Globe in Wells introduce 11 new bedrooms to the Grade II-listed pub, bringing the total number of rooms to 18.
The renovation work has started and is expected to continue throughout the winter season.
The new rooms will be available for holidaymakers to book from Spring 2018.
Owners Stephen Bournes and his wife Antonia, previous owners of Southwold Pier in Suffolk, bought the The Globe Inn in 2013.
Mr Bournes said: “Since we bought The Globe we always knew we wanted to invest long-term into this 17th century building.
“In those four years we have refurbished the bar and restaurant area, introduced the only rooftop terrace in Wells and created a place we hope visitors will want to visit time and time again.
“This new investment is a very exciting time for not only us but also for the visitors of Wells-next-the-Sea.”
He said Wells was a popular destination for visitors throughout the year which was why they were looking to expand their offering.
“It will also mean we are able to open up many more job opportunities for people in the local area and are looking forward to adding to our existing team of 25 staff.”
The announcement of the new development was welcomed by Kayla Dunne, the brand manager for Visit North Norfolk, who said: “Accommodation businesses in north Norfolk, overall, have had a busy year, so we are delighted that the popular Globe Inn is investing in new accommodation providing more choice, as well as accessibility, for visitors to Wells.
“North Norfolk’s visitor economy continues to grow and this is reflected by The Globe Inn’s confidence to expand their business.”
The new development will feature three ‘apart-hotel’ style rooms with kitchenettes for self-catering holidaymakers, three pet friendly rooms and a selection of large super king, family and easy access rooms.
Hotel guests will have exclusive use of the rooftop terrace overlooking the historic courtyard and a beach hut on Wells Beach complete with buckets, spades, deck chairs and picnic blankets.
