Northgate School ‘roast the competition’ as they win potato contest

Northgate High School has won the Solana Schools potato competition for producing the best quantity and quality of potatoes.

Solana Seeds held a judging ceremony at the Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) charity offices to pick the best potatoes, on Wednesday, September 19.

A spokesperson for Northgate said: “We are delighted to announce that Northgate won the overall result of the competition. A sample of our potatoes have been kept as they are keen to investigate the success of growth – a few farmers commented on not seeing such quality in years! Well done to Mr MacDonald and the students involved.”

Duncan Slater, Unity Education Trust ambassador, spent time meeting and talking to the students, before a lunch was provided along with goodie bags from Solana.

The competition was launched six months ago, to get students to understand more about the growth, yield and quality of potatoes.
