A police manhunt is continuing in the Dereham area to find a suspect reported to have crashed a stolen vehicle and run from the scene.

The early morning quiet was shattered in Yaxham when the driver careered into a brick wall before fleeing on foot toward Mattishall.

Police began searching for the driver on Norwich Road in Yaxham, near to the B1135 junction, at around 7am.

Several officers, including dog units, attended the scene and searched a property near to where the car came had come to a stop.

A road diversion was also put in place, with officers directing traffic away from the search area.

The early morning pursuit woke local resident, Mrs Corne, who heard the car lose control and crash into her wall.

She said: “I didn’t see it happen but I certainly heard it.

“I woke up to the sound of the car crashing into my front wall.

“From what I can tell, the driver came down the road, lost control and went into the wall, then appears to have spun as the car came to a halt facing the opposite direction.”

Mrs Corne’s front wall sustained extensive damage from the collision, with part of it reduced to rubble.

A wheelie bin outside the house was also crushed.

She added: “The police have been super helpful and caring and helped clear up.

“From what they told us they have a good idea of who the driver might be and they said they’d been trying to track him down for some time.

“It is just a relief no one in Yaxham was hurt.

“It is a busy time of day for the village, we have a lot of dog walkers who could have been caught up.

“It’s also the time when morning traffic is beginning to build up.”

Anyone with information should contact Norfolk police on 101.
