Police have received nearly 250 calls in just five hours as heavy rain, wind, snow and ice hit the region.

Norfolk Police said they answered 247 calls between 7am and midday today (Wednesday), which was higher than average.

And 87 of those were weather related, compared to just 17 last year.

Officers are urging people to call 101 - not 999 - if the situation is not an emergency but also to take care and drive to the conditions.

It comes as flooding has hit many parts of the county, including Norwich Road, in Strumpshaw.

Christine Hall, who along with her husband Spencer owns The Huntsman Pub, said the area had again been affected.

Mr and Mrs Hall had to close their business after flooding last year, and have not been able to reopen since.

Mrs Hall said: “The flood water is really deep all the way across the road, we’re pretty sure there’s going to be a serious accident. We’ve phoned the police and Highways Agency to let them know.”

The building had escaped the water so far, but Mrs Hall said it was starting to creep into the car park.

On the A47 at Scarning, a bus got stuck beneath a bridge in flood water.

And in Dereham a town centre store was closed due to flooding.

In Great Yarmouth, a shopping estate was closed after high winds blew a roof off a building.

It’s rare for the public to get a peak into the security arrangements of a Royal or high profile celebrity; however since the airing of BBC’s Bodyguard, part of which was filmed in Norfolk, the public has become more aware of the private security industry.
