More than 200 years after campaigners first met there to provide a rescue boat for seafarers, a historic hotel is continuing to support the RNLI.

The Red Lion in Cromer has donated more than £1630 to the town’s lifeboat station from the sale of bottled water.

A total of 20p from every bottle sold has been set aside for the lifesaving charity.

Since taking over the Red Lion seven years ago, owners Jo Alger and Callum Stuart have ensured that the traditional links to the RNLI have remained.

To show the station’s appreciation lifeboat operations manager Richard Leeds presented a picture of Cromer and other local RNLI lifeboats signed by crew members.

Mr Stuart said: “This very special picture will have pride of place in our hotel and reinforces the long association that the Red Lion Hotel has had with the RNLI.

“Being able to see Cromer’s lifeboat station from our windows allows our visitors to see how their donations help such a worthwhile organisation.”

The Red Lion Hotel first hosted meetings with locals seeking to launch a rescue boat in 1804, 20 years before the RNLI was founded.
