They may be too young to vote in the General Election but pupils at Dereham’s Neatherd High School will still have their say on who they would like to run the country.

The youngsters have elected party leaders and held hustings to win voters for a school election on Thursday.

Party members have been campaigning for the past two weeks, handing out leaflets and talking to voters.

With representatives from the Labour party, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats and the Green party all pupils will be able to cast a vote at a polling station in the school.

Joseph Cannon, head of society & ethics department, said: “The dedication towards this election from students has been inspiring. Such interest in politics in these young people gives us hope for the future.”

Robyn Moore, 13, added: “I think it is important that you get interested in politics from a young age as it is all about the future of our country.”
