Students from Dereham were given a unique opportunity to learn about space exploration when they attended a careers conference at the National Space Centre in Leicester.

The students from Dereham Sixth Form College attended the event on November 1 and learnt about the latest research in space exploration, including how it is being applied to the world around us.

One keynote speaker was the pro-vice chancellor of Leicester University, Professor Martin Barstow, who has been involved in instrumentation and operational developments for a number of space missions. He gave a talk on the search for earth-like planets.

Students were also given advice on career paths in the science and engineering sector, including options for scholarships.

Throughout the day they could meet representatives from companies such as Rolls Royce, Met Office, Royal Air Force and RAL Space.
