St Seraphim’s Quiet Garden at Walsingham is next to the St Seraphim’s Orthodox Chapel and has reclaimed a long-derelict parcel of land.

The annual environment award from North Norfolk District Council, which included a winner’s cheque for £500, was presented to the team responsible for the garden by council leader Tom FitzPatrick.

He said: “Many volunteers have been involved in this project, creating a beautiful and peaceful garden for public enjoyment and for the benefit of ecology and wildlife.

“The chapel itself uses the old station building and for many years there was an icon painting workshop which has now become a small museum of both the railway history and icon painting.”

Four nominations were received for this year’s award which was judged by a small panel.
