With almost 2,500 reported scams in the past three years in Norfolk, experts have now shared their top tips on how to avoid them.

The Uniting Norfolk Against Financial Abuse and Scams conference saw various agencies meet in Norwich on Thursday to strengthen the county’s response to the issue.

Margaret Dewsbury, chairman of Norfolk County Council’s communities committee, said: “Over the past three years in Norfolk we have received nearly 2500 scam cases or complaints.

“Thankfully the number of cases reported to us fell from 1165 in 2015, to 673 in 2016, however we have already seen 627 complaints so far this year so we know this issue is sadly not going to go away.”

She said the national cost of scamming is estimated to be between £5bn and 10bn a year.
