Wells lifeboat responded to a ‘Mayday’ call from the yacht “Spirit” which had lost power and run aground while entering Wells Harbour.

The yacht with one person on board had run aground close to No 1 buoy and was believed to be taking on water on September 27.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched on the incoming tide outside the boathouse at 7.41pm and proceeded down the channel, crossing the harbour bar.

At the same time, the All Weather Mersey Lifeboat left the Boathouse and proceeded to the low water launch site in Holkham bay to be in immediate readiness in case needed.

The lifeboat arrived alongside the yacht and placed a crew member on board to pass a towline and ascertained that the yacht was not taking on water. With the tow connected the casualty was successfully re-floated just after 8pm.

The lifeboat then towed the yacht towards Wells harbour on the first of the tide while the All Weather Lifeboat returned to the station.
