Police are appealing for witnesses after an attack on a woman in Fakenham.

The victim, in her 20s, was slapped in the face after a man attempted to steal her purse in the north Norfolk town.

The incident happened at around 10pm on Wednesday September 19, when the woman was walking on the footpath near to The Maltings Care Home on Norwich Road.

She was approached by a man who attempted to steal her purse, tucked under her arm. When she resisted, the man slapped the victim in the face and left without stealing anything.

The man is described as being white, aged in his early to mid-30s, around 5ft 8 inches tall, of a stocky build and was wearing dark clothing including a dark hooded top, which was concealing his face, and baggy dark tracksuit-style bottoms.

Officers want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information.

They should contact PC Jon Parker at Fakenham Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
