A dozen Dereham runners competed in a fine but breezy 10-mile road race at Freethorpe on Sunday.

The first DRAC runner home was Jake Stearman, whose fast time of 1:08.39 aged just 18 confirms once again why the club recently voted him male runner of the year.

Second Dereham finisher was Chris Hosier in 1:12.13, notching up a new personal best in the process.

Other Dereham runners and their times were Rob Crockford (1:19.43), Andy Rowles (1:19.58), Derek Sadler (1:24.24), Philip Websdale (1:27.05), Wayne Ramsbottom (1:27.12), Jan Totterdale (1:40.11), Helen Harrison (1:40.12), David Olley (1:40.14) and Emma Adock (1:55.10). A total of 676 entrants finished the race.

Charlotte Rose, running for City of Norwich but a second claim member of DRAC, flew around the course in 1:00.25, earning a podium position as second female finisher, and finishing 16th overall.

On Saturday several runners took part in Ultra endurance events, with Ashley Gilbert and James Davis taking on the Waterway 30 in Nottinghamshire, finishing in 5:15.44 and 6:32.45 respectively.

“They were tough conditions,” said James of his first such event. “But it was an amazing experience nonetheless. All smiles as I crossed the line after 32 miles, though my legs felt differently the day after.”

Kelly Mitchell, David Kellaway and Ian Odgers negotiated the Peddars Way Ultra Marathon, which covered 48 largely muddy miles from Knettishall Heath on the Suffolk border to Holme on the North Norfolk coast. Their respective times were 10:15.10, 10:52.40 and 10:59.02.

At Snetterton racetrack the club fielded seven runners among 754 in a 10k race. Club chairman Todd Lake had a fast time of 38.13, followed by Wayne Ramsbottom (48.24), Helen Harrison (52.43), Kelly Mitchell (54.12), David Olley (54.38), Jacquie Wood (55.02) and Paula Olley (56.52).

Half a dozen fearless DRAC packers got down and dirty for the Reepham Cross Country Charity 10k. Most members ran as a group and finished in 1:02.59, though a solo effort by Ashley Gilbert saw him rewarded with an impressive time of 43.59, placing him 12th overall. Sarah Lake ran with her dog, Choccy, and bagged first female finisher (with dog) in 58.57.
