Fakenham Town Reserves have one foot in Anglian Combination Division Two, with the other expected to follow shortly.

Theoretically Brandon Town and Horsford can still catch the Ghosts, but with goal difference becoming a factor Fakenham wil be going up unless there are huge wins for their rivals in their final games.

The Ghosts’ second-string played out a feisty 1-1 draw with Swaffham Town Reserves at Shoemakers Lane on Tuesday evening, with Tom East scoring early in the first half from the edge of the box after a goalkeeping error. The game was levelled in the 70th minute with Swaffham substitute Alex Vincent flicking the ball over Bond in the Fakenham goal.

The side complete their season at Clipbush Park on Monday May 1 against Horsford (12pm).

The first team can now fully focus on the Norfolk Senior Cup Final safe in the knowledge that they are in no relegation danger after the Easter weekend action.

A 2-0 home win against Long Melford on Saturday and then a 2-1 defeat away at Godmanchester Rovers on Easter Monday rubber-stamped safety for this year. Results elsewhere went The Ghosts’ way.

A first half wonder-strike from Sam Garner opened the scoring against Long Melford in a game the the Ghosts dominated for long spells – Tommy Rix in the Fakenham goal a spectator for much of the tie. Second-half substitute Shane Akers wrapped up the win late on, firing home from the edge of the box.

At Godmanchester Josh Youngs equalised in the second half with his 10th league goal of the season. The hosts had opened the scoring after a defensive mix-up and the Ghosts were to be undone in the 90th minute after a hard-fought game.

A trip to Wivenhoe awaits on Saturday, before their final home game on April 29 against Walsham le Willows. There is then a lenghty wait until the Carrow Road showpiece against King’s Lynn Town on May 24, Those games will be played without the leadership of Wayne Anderson, who left his position as manager on Tuesday evening after a meeting with chairman Andrew Jarvis.

Fakenham’s Ladies welcome King’s Lynn Town Ladies to Clipbush Park on Sunday (2pm), having not played for a fortnight. Their last fixture, also at home, was a 2-1 win against Kirkley & Pakefield Ladies.
