Fakenham have made an excellent start to their Eastern Counties One North campaign, winning both matches while scoring 94 points and conceding just five.

They followed up their 33-5 victory over Diss Saracens on the opening day with an emphatic 61-0 success against visitors Great Yarmouth & Broadland on Saturday.

Fakenham, playing for the first time in a new kit, won the game comfortably but the scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story.

The first half was dominated by Fakenham with tries coming from Murray Tindall (2), Adam Lingwood, Henry Hepworth-Smith and Ian Williamson and Tom Bane Young adding three conversions.

The highlight was Tindall’s second try which came after strong forward carries on the right before the ball went wide to the left wing and slick pop off-loads between the back line allowed Tindall to gallop through and score under the posts.

Broadland regrouped at half-time and came out stronger. Fakenham on the other hand took their foot off the pedal and lost their composure.

Sloppy handling along with white line fever meant the home side were unable to increase their score for next 25 minutes. But despite this their defence held firm and Broadland were unable to get close to the Fakenham line.

In the end Fakenham regained their composure and ran in a further four tries through Tindall, Bane Young and Jordi Walker (2) to take the points tally past 60.

The afternoon came to a close with Henry Hepworth-Smith being voted Norfolk Brewhouse man-of-the- match.

The club are grateful to the sponsors of the new kit, Peniston Ltd, The Gallery Bistro and Gatsbys Barbers.

With 10 points from a possible 10 so far Fakenham lead the way by one points from Beccles, the other side to have won both their matches.

They will be aiming to keep up the good work on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Norwich Union for their first away match of the season.

In Eastern Counties Division Three North Dereham turned on the style on Saturday to win 62-0 at Norwich Union’s second team, the Firebirds.

Twenty/Twenty cricket may be thought of as a modern phenomenon - but did you know it was thriving 70 years ago and in its heyday in the 1950s it was being played six days a week?

But forget all the 21st Century TV razzmatazz, with coloured clothing, coloured stumps and theme tunes - it was definitely all white on the night then.
