A Norfolk band is hoping to strike gold after writing a song celebrating the London Olympics.

The Colour features Adam North, 36, from Long Stratton, near Norwich, on guitar, Scott Field, 39, of Hingham, near Wymondham, on the drums, Rob Forder, 31, of East Harling, near Thetford, on bass guitar, Alex Jones, 23, of Watton, who plays the keyboard and guitar, and lead singer James Poole, 24, who grew up in Martham, near Great Yarmouth, but now lives in London.

Formed in late 2010, the pop/rock band has recorded London’s Calling and a video is due to be filmed next month.

James said: “Living in London, there is buzz around the Olympics and it makes you feel a part of something big.”

Scott, a member of the Norfolk Fire Service’s urban search and rescue team, added: “It is about celebrating our country. We are a country of athletes and hopefully the song will give them some support.”

The band is called The Colour because of the dramatic art performed during their live shows.

Developed in 2004, the art is produced by Scott, whose drum sticks are linked to bags of emulsion paint which is sprayed over a white canvas and the band members as Scott plays the drums.

“We make a colour wherever we go,” said Scott.

When the band perform London’s Calling, yellow, green, black, blue and red emulsion paint – representing the Olympic rings – will be sprayed out of the drumsticks as a “grand finale”.

Scott came up with the concept in 1998 after cutting his finger during a performance with another band.

James, a music manager, started writing London’s Calling in June 2011, and it was recorded over two days in November at Fly Studios, Holt.

Adam – a graphic designer – said: “It (London’s Calling) is doing something positive for London.”

In the past The colour have played at The Brickmakers, in Sprowston, Norwich, and The Forum in August last year when they performed their charity song Who Are Ya?

Who Are Ya? raised money for the leukaemia appeal set up by Norwich City legend Bryan Gunn and during the performance green and yellow paint showered the band.

The London Calling supplement is out on January 31.
