King’s Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell is pleased his side will begin their Evo-Stik Division One South campaign with a home fixture.

Newly-promoted Lynn open their Northern League account against Chasetown, who were relegated to Step Four of the non-league ladder last season, at The Walks on August 18.

The Linnets then travel to Hucknall three days later before welcoming Brigg Town in their next league game on August 27.

Setchell said: “It’s always nice to be at home on the first day of the season.

“Our home form will be key so it would be nice to get off to a reasonable start. With it being a home game we have a better opportunity for that to happen. In that sense the fixtures have been kind to us, even if you’ve got to play everyone twice. With two out of the first three games at home we’ll definitely be looking to get some points on the board.”

Lynn will face lengthier journeys up north next season as they prepare for life after gaining promotion from the United Counties Premier Division – despite finishing runners-up.

Two of those take place during what Setchell calls a “tough” Christmas programme where the Linnets travel to Brigg Town and Carlton Town.

A Boxing Day trip to Brigg, near Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire, is followed by a two-hour trip on December 29 to Nottingham-based Carlton Town. Lynn’s festive fixtures end with a home derby game against Stamford on New Year’s Day.

Setchell said: “While the fixtures at the start of the season may seem kind the Boxing Day one, especially, isn’t.

“It’s a tough and long trip on Boxing Day followed by a difficult trip to Carlton a few days later. The home game against Stamford isn’t easy so we’ve definitely got some tough games around the Christmas period.

“When the fixtures come out you look for certain teams, like the big clubs, and then groups of games. You look at your first five matches, then games around Christmas and Easter, and you start to put matches into bunches. That said, I don’t think you can really read too much into it as nobody will know where they are until about 12 games in.”

In other stand-out ties, Coalville return to The Walks – more than a year after trouble erupted between both sets of fans during an FA Vase semi-final – in a midweek fixture on October 9.

Lynn are in derby action again at Stamford on April 1 while Setchell’s side finish their 42-game league season at Belper Town.

Having a full campaign’s fixture list comes as a welcome relief for Lynn’s manager. For the past two seasons he has received his side’s UCL matches on a ‘month-to-month’ basis, and Setchell believes life for him and his players will be much more manageable this time around.

He said: “The fixtures have come out how they should do – from week one to week 42. Players who have to book time off work can do it now.

“This just makes life easier for everyone, especially now we need to prepare for longer journeys. I came in for some flak after saying we were going to be playing ‘proper football’ in the Evo-Stik. But that wasn’t meant to be disrespectful to the standard of football in the UCL. It was meant more about the long trips away, the heritage of clubs we will be playing, and things like having all our fixtures at once.”

Lynn play their third pre-season friendly of the summer at Dereham Town tonight. Jordan Yong, Russell Dunkley (both away), Dan Buhlemann (work), Jason Turner (knee), Stuart Wall (knee) and Rob Hughes (groin) are unavailable.

Wisbech Town, having won 4-1 at The Walks on Saturday, go to Spalding tonight. Other friendlies see Thetford Town host Wroxham, Diss Town visit Cromer and Kirkley & Pakefield entertain neighbours Lowestoft Town.
