Forty years of family pantomime will be celebrated in Fakenham this year as the town’s amateur drama group prepares to stage its latest production.

There is just over a month to go before Fadlos (Fakenham and District Light Operatic Society) brings Jack and the Beanstalk to the stage at the Fakenham Community Centre.

Jack and the Beanstalk, a high energy production filled with toe-tapping tunes, is directed by Alex Chidichimo and Tilly Baron, and with faces old and new in the principal roles and a host of adults and children in the chorus it will be a fun evening for all the family.

The story begins with the village of Serenia in trouble.

Giant Blunderbore and his henchman Rancid are blackmailing the villagers and the King for money, or they face becoming the giant’s dinner, and the Princess has been kidnapped.

Dame Trott and her two sons, Jack and Simple Simon, are forced to sell their beloved cow Daisy.

Tricked at the market Jack returns with a bag of beans. Dame Trott throws the beans out, resulting in a beanstalk of gigantic proportions.

Jack leads his motley crew up the beanstalk to Cloudland, under the watch of Fairy Thistledown, to rescue the love of his life, Princess Melissa, and save the village from Giant Blunderbore.

Will Jack save the day? Will the kingdom’s riches be restored? Will Dame Trott ever find love again?

The only way to find out is at this 40th anniversary pantomime, sponsored by Sandringham café and restaurant, from December 5 – 9, every evening at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

The box office opens at 9am on Thursday, November 9 at Sweets ‘n’ Things in the Market Place in Fakenham and online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/fadlos. Tickets cost £6.50 and £8.

Fundraising events are planned before the curtain goes up including the very popular jumble sale on Sunday, November 26 from 11am - 1pm at the community centre with a tombola and some incredibly high quality items already donated, and carol singing at Fakenham Tesco on Sunday, December 3.

For more information about future and past productions visit the Fadlos website where you can also enquire about joining this award-winning drama group.
