AN enchanting romance has prompted theatre bosses to lay on a special treat for a Briston couple.

Bert Kirk met his future bride, Pat, during a performance of Cinderella at the Theatre Royal at Norwich two years ago.

And their story captivated theatre staff who invited them back as their guests as a belated wedding present.

Bert and Pat were given the VIP treatment when they went to see this year's panto, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on Friday and were able to meet some of the cast before the show.

The love between the couple, who live at Briston and were married in a church service at Fakenham in July, is clear for all to see and throughout the show they couple held hands and couldn't stop laughing at the comic elements in the show.

“We have had a wonderful evening and it was lovely for us to be invited back by the Theatre Royal management and we thank them very much. We have really been treated like VIPs and were able to meet some of the cast before the show, everyone has been so kind to us,” said Pat after the curtain came down on the evening's performance.

Pat, 82, said since their wedding they have settled into married life and she described 85-year-old Bert as her own Price Charming.

“Bert is such a gentleman and really looks after me and it is wonderful that we were able to find each other and become husband and wife at our stage in life, It just goes to show that you are never too old for romance,” she said.

Before the show Pat and Bert had an opportunity to meet some of the show's stars, including Caitlin Stasey, who plays Snow White, Richard Gauntlett who plays Nurse Nellie and Liza Goddard who plays Fairy Snowdrop and she was even able to get a pantomime poster signed by some of the cast as a souvenir.

Miss Goddard said that it was lovely to see romance still alive and she wished the couple a happy evening.

“It a sweet, lovely story and two years on they are still together, it's the magic of panto,” said Miss Goddard.

Theatre press officer John Bultitude said that they were only too happy to give the couple free tickets and tickets for their son and daughter-in-law who drove them to the theatre.

“We are delighted to give the couple a belated wedding present. It is nice to know that as well as enjoying the pantomime, they found love here at the Theatre Royal in Norwich,” said Mr Bultitude.
