Fakenham people have been left angered by an overflowing dog waste bin.

Residents of the town took to social media to complain about the bin, which is just near the town's parish church.

One resident, David Attoe, said on a community noticeboard group on Facebook: “What's happening with the dog bins, never been too full to use before?”

Another commenter said: “Take it home and put it in your own bin. People just seem to have lost their use of common sense or are just plain lazy.

"I have never used one of these bins, take it home.”

And someone else said: “I asked for another bin for church lanes. Due to people throwing their dog poo in mine and neighbours' gardens.”

Fakenham town councillor Dan Andrews also weighed in on the issue, saying he would raise the overflowing dog mess bin at a town council meeting.

Mr Andrews said: “The council pays a contractor for the servicing of our town's dog waste bins, which is funded from our council tax.”

North Norfolk District Council said bins were regularly collected in 'high traffic' areas and if bins are getting filled faster than collections, the council could increase collection frequency.

A spokesman for NNDC said: “Residents are encouraged to contact the council whenever a local dog waste bin is full, and the council will arrange for an additional collection.

“Dog waste bins are regularly emptied and in higher usage areas and collection, frequency is adjusted accordingly.

“You can contact the council to notify us of full or missing dog waste bins.”

NNDC said one dog waste bin had been recently relocated from Hempton Common to  the footpath opposite Gogg's Mill Lane, near the Fakenham Garden Centre.

The move was made at the request of Hempton Parish Council.

Missing or damaged litter or dog bins can be reported to the district council on 0330 109 9220. Issues with bins can also be reported online at north-norfolk.gov.uk.
