Sights of ice and fire had a group of sixth-formers from Norfolk wide-eyed and inspired.
A group of 28 students and four staff have just returned from a trip to Iceland - Fakenham Academy’s first international trip since before the pandemic.
Sally Hirst, trip leader and the school’s head of geography, said the four-day venture “surpassed expectations”.
She said: “We had beautiful clear crisp weather which enabled us to visit all sites on our tour and to learn about the physical features and the changing landscape from our expert and charismatic tour guide, Guy.

“I personally enjoyed extending my geographical understanding by seeing climate change in action when visiting Sólheimajökull glacier which was much reduced with markers to show the extent of retreat in the last 40 years.

“Students were a credit to themselves, their parents and the school.
"I feel very lucky to have taken such a group of mature young people who clearly appreciated their experience.”
Group members got to see volcanoes and bathe in the hot springs of the country’s famous ‘Secret Lagoon’.
