A "monster" of a burger has been created in a quiet Norfolk lay-by - and it is driving in the punters.

Chris Esposito's so-called 'Espo Mac' burger holds no less than two sausages, two-quarter pounders, four rashers of bacon, an egg, cheese and onion.

Mr Esposito, 66, has started serving up the beast from his food trailer in a spot off the A148 between Fakenham and King’s Lynn - the very place where his catering career started in 1995.

Since adding the burger to his menu a little over a month ago the 1,000-calorie creation has become a smash hit - not a day has gone by where he has not sold at least one.

It is also getting a lot of attention online as he shares pictures of happy customers with their burgers.

“I feel ecstatic," he said. "There is nothing like this about, we’ve put a bit of fun into fast food.

"I wanted something massive, cheap, but also have real quality to it, and I am so happy with the response.”

Mr Esposito and regular customer Ben Powles developed the idea for the burger, which sells for £9 and is filled with meat from Papworth Butchers in Fakenham.

The burger-master had his signature dish after the pair brainstormed how it would look and taste for about an hour.

Mr Esposito left the catering trade in 2013 and started up Esposito Fencing and Gates with his son.

He retired from the fencing company in November 2021, but got bored with retirement so decided to return to making food.

Mr Esposito opened the food trailer behind Fakenham's Toolstation last August, and moved back to his old lay-by in April.

“When I came back I found all my old regulars were coming back out to see me, as well as some new faces,” he said.

Mr Esposito and his staff members, Sarah and Sara, are busy every day but demand surges on Fridays, when at times they are forced to close their hatch to fulfil the telephone orders.

Mr Esposito was tight-lipped about his next creation, but said already had a good idea about what it would be.

The  Espo Mac - how does it stack up?

I’ve rarely been intimidated by food before, but I’ve never had an Espo Mac.

It looks like something you’d expect to see on the 'challenge' section of a restaurant menu where you get your meal for free if you inhale it in under half an hour.

Some might see it as a gimmick but the finished product is anything but, boasting a quality cut of meat you’d expect at a fine eatery rather than a lay-by snack bar.

I even got the chance to watch the burger being made, and saw pieces of fat being cut off by the chef to ensure the stuff that made it on to my tray was only the best.

The quality and care put into the product speak for itself.

It is quite a feat to eat, and not to be considered as a 'light' lunch.

It might actually be the only thing you might eat that day. I struggled to pick it up, let alone take a bite.

It was truly a belly full, and I'd recommend anyone who likes a challenge and a tasty meal at the same time give it a go.
