Parents say they have been left scrambling to arrange childcare after a village pre-school announced it would be closing for an entire term.

Weasenham Pre-School is due to close for the entirety of the autumn term, with parents told last week that a number of repairs are needed to its building.

Surveying is due to be carried out over the summer to work out exactly what repairs are needed - but the Diocese of Norwich Education and Academies Trust has already decided to close for the autumn term.

It has left parents facing tough choices over what to do from September - with many questioning the decision to close the school which can have up to 18 children.

Mum-of-three Becky Brown, whose son Samuel attends the pre-school, said the closure had sparked anger among parents in the village.

Ms Brown, who also works at the pre-school, said: "This has put parents in a really difficult position and there is a lot of anger about it.

"Most of the parents work full-time and really rely on having a local pre-school, particularly those who have older children at the primary school.

"It's very frustrating not knowing what to do - do we find somewhere else, let them settle and then unroot them again or try and struggle through?"

A spokeswoman for DNEAT said it would be up to parents to find alternative provisions for the autumn term and that its re-opening would be "dependent on the results of the survey and the amount of work that needs to be done".

A letter to parents informing them of the closure reads: "Although our current assessment of the pre-school building shows it to be safe, we have identified a number of significant actions and repairs required to the building, particularly in relation to the roof, in order to keep the building warm, water-tight and safe in the long-term."

Weasenham CE Primary Academy, where the pre-school is based, is unaffected.
