The owners of one of Norfolk’s most popular car boots sales are extending their season thanks to the warmer-than-usual start to autumn.

Brian and Gill Berry, the faces behind the Cherry Tree Car Boot in Fakenham, said the weekly sale would keep running beyond its planned end date of October's first weekend - as long as the weather remains acceptable.

Mr and Mrs Berry said the reaction to the decision to run a longer season had already been "unbelievable”.

Mr Berry said: “So many people were saying, ‘what a shame you're closing’, so we decided to keep it going as long as we can, depending on the weather.

“October is normally a bad month, 6am in the morning is cold, normally damp and dark and really not worth doing.

"We usually have a few people turn up, and we travel from Hertfordshire, but the people of Norfolk have spoken.

“It is a great boost for us to know that we gained people's confidence in us, as we made a big effort to improve everything about the site.”

Mr and Mrs Berry have owned the site for over 15 years and hoped this year would be a return to the form they saw before the pandemic - but a strange summer weather-wise meant it failed to hit those heights.

Mr Berry said: “It started off very well, then we had some gorgeous weather which always makes a difference then July and August which was manky weather-wise, but still not bad considering.

“It has been a good year, and had a lot of pleasant comments, but not quite to the pre-pandemic level.”
