Two popular food businesses in one of Norfolk's most popular beach resorts have claimed victory over an up-and-down summer as they both started fresh new chapters.

The chain Two Magpies opened a new bakery in Wells-next-the-Sea earlier this year, and its owner/director Steve Magnall said he could not be happier with how things were going.

"The Wells site has been a resounding success and has achieved what we wanted to and some more as well,” he said.

“We have been welcomed by locals and visitors alike and are seeing many regulars now.

“We have a great team led by Tessa, area manager and Nikki as manager on site and this helps in making sure the customer experience is the best possible.

"Obviously, this is all supported by our back-of-house teams delivering fresh bread, pastries, savouries and cakes on a daily basis.

“The weather has not been an issue as Wells is attracting many visitors, whether day-trippers or people staying for the week.

"As we continue in September, sales are holding up.”

Wyatt Watts, team leader at Plattens, believes the quayside chippy's introduction of a four-day working week has had a positive impact on business, as well as team morale.

Mr Watts said: “I’ve been here since 2017 and this summer has felt a lot more comfortable than previous years.

"I’ve felt calm and collected even on those stressful days, because we have such a high morale in the team."

“The two on, two off, structure meant it was easier to get through those tough days and led to that positive vibe.”

“I’m not sure about the figures and the margins, but it felt like the summer went really well business-wise.

"It felt like during our traditional peak months there has not been any decline.”
