An event to help rebuild a village hall destroyed in a fire has been hailed as a success.

Party in the Park was held in Walsingham on Saturday as the committee in charge of rebuilding its village hall started its fundraising effort.

Earlier this year the village was rocked following a suspected arson attack at the hall.

Over 700 people attended the party which ran throughout the day and into the night, with music from the Fakenham Ukes, the Subzero 60/70’s band and DJ Chris Esposito.

Keith Tuck, Walsingham parish councillor and a committee member for the village hall, said: ’We were thrilled to hold this event as we look to rebuild this vital cornerstone of our community.

“This party brought the village and local community together again after a long time apart and gave them the opportunity to view the plans for the rebuild.

“We managed to raise just over £2,000 towards the project, with the online fundraising still open. We will be holding a similar event bigger and better next year on June 22."

He spearheaded Saturday's event in hopes of repeating that feat.

He helped to bring in a giant tombola with over 150 donated prizes from local businesses and individuals - as well as some architectural drawings of what the new building could look like in the future.
