Flood warnings remain in place in Norfolk after Storm Babet

The second named storm of the season arrived in force on Friday, bringing torrential rain and gale-force winds that closed major roads and flooded communities.

Five flood warnings are still active for the River Thet at Shropham, East Harling and Shadwell, the River Wissey at Mundford, Stoke Ferry and Hilgay, and the River Waveney from Bungay to Ellingham.

The warnings also extend to the River Waveney from Diss to Bungay and the River Yare from the A11 at Cringleford to Trowse Newton.

According to the Environment Agency, river levels in these areas are currently high but steady, with flooding expected.

Further rainfall is forecast today which will keep river levels high, with locals urged to be ready to take action to protect properties.

As well as five warnings, another 11 flood alerts remain active today, including the Hundred Foot Washes, Little Ouse River and River Thet, the River Wissey and the River Stiffkey from Fulmodeston to Warham.

The River Bure, Spixworth Beck and surrounding Becks are also affected, as well as The Rivers Tud and Wensum from Fakenham to Costessey, the River Waveney from Diss and the River Dove to Ellingham. 

This extends to the River Yare from Cringleford to Trowse Newton, the Rivers Bure, Ant and Thurne, the Waveney from Ellingham to Breydon Water and the upper Rivers Yare, Tiffey, Tas and Wacton.
