Is a business boom on the way for Fakenham?

Over the past month several centrally located empty units have been snatched up and there are more to come for the town which had been suffering from a plague of barren buildings.

JJ’s, a clothes shop, has opened in Norwich Street, offering people the chance to hire and buy dresses and accessories.

And an unknown business has taken over 1 Millers Walk, which has meant the Post Office has moved next door. A 'pop-up shop' run by the Royal British Legion has opened at the former Carphone Warehouse.

Now, another Norwich Street unit - formerly the home of WaffleOpolis which shut last July - has been bought, with a sale agreed sign from Bailey Bird & Warren appearing in the shop’s window.

But Nick Bird, director of the estate agents, was tight-lipped when it came to who was buying the premises.

“I cannot tell you too much about the sale of the ex-'Waffleopolis shop', or its intended use – except to say, the offer was accepted last month, and the matter is in the hands of the solicitors,” he said.

The agent is also managing the letting of the former Metcalf Jewellers in Upper Market Place, which was put up to let in May this year - after the previous tenant said he was looking to move abroad

Mr Bird confirmed that there has been some interest in the former jeweller’s shop in Upper Market Place, but could not confirm from whom.

Brown & Co property consultants, the managing agents for Millers Walk owners CBGA Robson, said they had seen much interest in empty units there and hoped to announce a new tenant for the M&Co unit soon.
