Work to expand a football team's clubhouse is set to get underway.

Fakenham Town Football Club has announced that it will now carry out the plans for its single-storey extension to the clubhouse.

Plans were approved by North Norfolk District Council on November 25, 2022 and since then the club has been working to get into a position to undertake the improvements.

Doug Colman, chairman for Fakenham Town, said: “We are going to take down a wall and make three/four rooms which we can divide up for functions, and lease or rent out to local businesses or companies to use our premises.

“This will help to generate more money into the club, we are all volunteers and if we want to move forward as a football club we have to generate money from somewhere.

“It will create more revenue and will be more luxury for people attending. More room, more tables and chairs, and more space for our fans."

Mr Colman said the club is hoping to start work this summer and expects it to take between “six to seven months to complete.”
