Two new minibuses were unveiled at Heritage House in Wells on Friday, August 16, with a third old one arriving under new wrapping.

The £75,000 donation from the Norfolk Superhero Challenge, together with funds from several trusts and charities including the Wells League of Friends, means the centre can provide free transport to guests.

It provides day care support for up to 30 frail and elderly people a day, five days a week, as well as respite to their carers.

Day care manager Steve Cheshire said: "For some disabled, frail or elderly, people life stops at the front door.

"We believe that life should be fulfilling. We all should have something to look forward to, and that enjoying great company, celebrating birthdays with others and being happy are things we would want for those we love.

"People in our care are positive, joyous and happy and the pictures now adorning our minibuses illustrate the positive effect of having something to look forward to. Thanks to the support of organisations such as Norfolk Superhero and Holkham Hall we can keep our costs low, but the quality high."

The money was raised at Norfolk Superhero's much-celebrated quadrathlon challenge.

Co-organisers, Sophie Ellis and Jess Lapping said. "Our volunteer 'pink ladies', marvellous sponsors and the incredible competitors and their supporters are delighted to be the sponsors of the new minibus."

The unveiling event at 12pm will be attended by Heritage House patron, Lady Leicester from Holkham, and many of the centre's trustees and other supporters. Heritage House's two founders will also be present.

The Norfolk Superhero Challenge is held annually in June, at Burnham Overy Staithe on the north Norfolk coast.

Participants take part in teams of two over a course that includes a swim, a kayak through the creeks, a 45-mile circular cycle route and an eight-mile run across the beach finishing with the last mile over the marsh.
