An award-winning play starring actors from the West End is soon set to arrive in Dereham.
Stephen Macdonald’s 1982 classic wartime drama Not About Heroes is coming to Dereham Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 27.
The production has been touring for two years and winds up in London for a season after its final stops at Dereham, Colchester, Winchester and Northern Ireland.
A Friends of Dereham Memorial Hall spokesman said: “We saw this production at Edinburgh Fringe last year where it played to packed houses throughout the festival.
“Ordinarily it would be way outside our budget but a generous grant from the town’s Centenary Commemoration Fund has meant we could tempt them away from the much larger theatres they are playing.”
The story is of Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, who find themselves thrown together at Craiglockhart Hospital in 1917 to recover from physical and emotional wounds received during the war.
The chemistry has been described as powerful, crackling and fizzing with tension. They argue about the issues of the day, especially the drive for young men to sacrifice themselves for the greater good.
The play stars Daniel Llewellyn Williams, who has West End accreditations including 39 Steps and Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, television appearances in Eastenders, Torchwood and Midsomer Murders, and awards for artistic excellence.
Also appearing is Owain Gwynn, as Mr Owen, who has starred in Warhorse at The National Theatre and The Light Princess at The Old Vic and has a string of television credits to his name.
Tickets are £12 for adults and £10 for teens and can be purchased from ticketsource.co.uk/fodmh or from Bright and Beautiful Flowers, on 3a Wellington Road.
The show will start at 7.30pm.
