The brilliant sunshine was reflected in the gleaming chrome on Wednesday afternoon as dozens of proud Harley-Davidson owners rode on to Fakenham racecourse.

Members of the Fenlanders' Harley-Davidson owners' group were gathering from all over East Anglia at Fakenham for their annual three-day rally.

And, by Thursday, hundreds of the pristine motorbikes were assembled on the extensive site where the riders are staying under canvas and in motorhomes.

On Wednesday they took part in a “ride out” to North Walsham and on Thursday they headed to Cromer for a gathering on the seafront.

The Fenlanders' group is made up of people from all walks of life, including businessmen, builders, housewives and families, all united by a passion for one of the most celebrated of motorbike makes.

The riders donned their leathers and with an impressive growl of engines, took to the roads of Norfolk.

The rallies have been staged at Fakenham racecourse for more than a decade and their “ride outs” make for an impressive spectacle as the gleaming machines travel in convoy through the countryside.

The members are active fundraisers for charity and over recent years have donated more than £75,000 to Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. The main beneficiary of this weekend's rally will be the East Anglian air ambulance.

The group's press spokesman, Philip Dingle, said: “We are all united by our pride in our Harley-Davidsons and our love of showing them off.

“They are ultra reliable, hold their price like nothing else and every one is different.”

The members enjoy gathering at the site which is regarded as one of their best regional venues.

The weekend gives them a chance to compare machines and socialise.
