Local firefighters will be washing cars and dispensing fire safety advice during National Car Wash Day on Saturday .

Fire crews from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service will be joining thousands of their colleagues from all over the country in the annual event.

Firefighters will be getting into a lather at Fakenham fire station from 8.30am until 3.30pm. All proceeds will be going to the charity which supports injured firefighters.

But while firemen nationwide will be waxing lyrical there is a serious side to the event - to save lives and raise much-needed funds for the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund.

FSNBF chief executive Roy Lawrenson explained : “As the UK's fire charity, we see how fire can take lives and devastate communities. By learning about personal safety, homes will become safer places and lead to fewer accidents and, ultimately, fewer deaths.”
