Local causes are set to benefit from two groups who have set themselves the challenge of scaling two different three peaks, one in Yorkshire and the other throught Britain.

Officers from the Fakenham and Wells Safer Neighbourhood teams and members of Wells Area Partnership leave at one minute past midnight tomorrow heading for the Yorkshire Dales where they are aiming to climb the three peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. They aim to climb the peaks and cover the miles between the three mountains and the distance between Yorkshire and Norfolk within 24 hours.

Those taking part are PC Lee Anderton, police community support officer, Becky Taylor and Mike Blowers. They will be accompanied by Emily Grecas and Martin Emerson, of the Wells Area Partnership. PC Austin Clarke will be providing transport for the event.

They will be completing the challenge to raise funds for four local charities, North Norfolk Radio's Family First, Wells Community Hospital, East Anglian air ambulance and Homes for Wells.

PC Anderton said that all those taking part are doing so in their own time and demonstrating that they are genuinely committed to being involved within the communities they serve in their professional roles.

Tesco at Fakenham is supporting their efforts by offering funding, T-shirts and providing fundraising facilities at their store.

Members from the team will be at the Fakenham store today from 10am until 2pm to publicise the event.

When twin girls, Lily and Imogen, were born in September 2007, to Neil and Claire Williamson, of Fakenham, they were 11 weeks early and spent three months on the Neonatal Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at King's Lynn.

Now their proud parents are doing something to thank the medical staff for the “fantastic jobs” in caring for their babies who now, at nine-months-old, are happy and healthy and growing fast..

Mr Williamson and his brother, Ian, and two friends are to attempt the Three Peaks Challenge, which means climbing the three highest peaks in Great Britain, to raise funds for the Special Care Baby Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn.

“The medical staff did a fantastic job in caring for our daughters and we wanted to do something to thank them,” said Mrs Williamson.

They will attempt to scale

Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pyke in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales within 24 hours over the weekend of July 25 and

26.

The team have set up a fundraising webpage and anyone who would like to sponsor their efforts should go to www. justgiving.com/lilyandimogen where they will find details about the challenge and how they make a donation.
